1967 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible

Description:

1967 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible

When it comes to 60s GM muscle, Oldsmobile enthusiasts often spend years searching for a clean, numbers matching car that's worthy of investment grade money. But every once in a while, a pristine rocket hits our website and causes a BIG commotion which results in a flood of calls and one lucky buyer finally cashing in on a rare opportunity. My Advice...Call NOW!

Now hear this!!!! Gracing the North mallway of our Hallowed Halls, 1 of about 1,300 1967 442 convertibles built with AC and this example is 1 of 300 still on the road so states our consignor. Used but not abused, the consignor stated numbers matching drivetrain was rebuilt at 38,000 miles, the interior was redone in 2002 and the paint and top were done in 2005. This example looks sharp, has its window sticker, original owners manual, convertible top manual, and Protect-O-Plate. Sporting 69,970 non verifiable miles as the title reads mileage exempt, hop in turn the key and experience what 4, (400ci), 4, (4 barrel carb), 2, (dual exhaust) mean. As I said, Call NOW!

Exterior
Panels were straightened and cleaned and after this process, multiple coats of trim tag correct Spanish Red base and a clear coat was applied and is looking nearly as good as when it was sprayed back in 2005. A few inclusions, chips, and some heavy bubbling and invasive rust is noted on the lowers of the body. All the chrome is looking fine with mirror-like reflections and I'm in love with the slightly sunken dual headlights that lead the way under the imposing louvered hood. Well minded gaps now showing, some black pin striping at the top of the fenders through the door sills, and nicely ribbed rocker covering just at the bottom of the doors and not on the actual rockers all add to the allure. The convertible top is like new and has a totally clear rear plastic window and moves up and down flawlessly. 14-inch Magnum 500 wheels are wrapped with red line radials. A large panel dual headlight, curved in the rear tail light, big steel slabbed car looks beautiful when that top is dropped from the side profile.

Interior
Making use of the structures of the seats which were totally rebuilt with foam, and wrapped with black vinyl to match the new door panels, and a fresh roll of black carpet, bring this interior right back to the near pristine state, and this was done in 2002! Notable horizontal and vertical thin strips of chrome accent the door panels, along with the window cranks, door actuator and side view mirror joystick. The low back buckets with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters sport seat belts in black. A rear bench in the same pattern as the buckets has some nicely padded armrests complete with ashtrays. A sleek styled center console houses a glovebox, and the wood knobbed shifter. In front just above a black metal bottom strip is a black padded vinyl dash. In its center is an aluminum panel which shows very well, and houses the A/C vents, AM/FM radio, power top button, and A/C and heat controls. On the driver's side are 2 large round gauges showing speedometer and a foursome of supporting gauges just behind the original steering wheel which is also looking good, especially with the aftermarket tach strapped to the column. Power steering, power brakes, and a power trunk release are all here and working. Black carpeting is flooding the floors and now it's time to investigate under the hood.

Drivetrain
After extensive research and casting numbers check we know we have a 1966/67 400ci V8 442 block. A single 4-barrel carburetor is atop and the intake is correct. A correct 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission is on back, while it is a 1967 unit based on the hydramatic tag, it does not have any partial vin stamping. Power goes through a 10-bolt Anti-Spin rear axle to turn both rear tires.

Undercarriage
Nicely preserved with rustproofing black paint, we see surface rust on the untreated components along with some drips on the oil pan and seepage and drift on the transmission pan. We now see power disc brakes up front, and power drums for the back. Independent coil spring suspension up front and a 4 link with coil springs on back. Just like the moniker states...dual exhaust is on board and runs stem to stern, terminating with chrome tips under the rear bumper.

Drive-Ability
A fine runner and great cruiser. All the power options work which made the top down late fall drive rather nice with the heat blowing on full blast. Limitless horsepower, bias free braking and adequate handling were shown on our test loop and we returned with smiles on our faces. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

All buttoned up and painted with some age on the body and exterior, but not enough to deter one from entering shows and taking home trophies. With the engine power, documentation and good looks, this is a car that you truly can be wild about! Come on down.
