2002 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
More than 250,000 fifth generation corvettes were produced, and they represented cosmetic and technological advancement over the C4. The body was more streamlined and soft edges became even softer, more seamless. Both the C4 and the C5 have 5.7 liter engines, but in 1997, Chevy's introduction of the LS1 engine yielding an incredible 100 horsepower over the C4 while retaining the substantial torque numbers. The realignment of weight including the use of a transaxle, along with other structural changes, greatly balanced and improved handling of the C5's.

Exterior
The third most common color in 2002 for the Corvette is Electron Blue Metallic. Common in terms of Corvette numbers, about 35,000 in 2002, but not common overall with just 5,407 C5's leaving the plant in this color. It's a beautiful medium blue that covers our car in fine style with a few imperfections that include scuffs on the chin and surrounding cover. The embossed Corvette in back is painted red and below it, quad chrome exhaust tips enter in the center flanked by air splitting slits in the bumper cover. The targa top is removable and tinted so it allows shaded light to the cabin and adds a nice design element to the exterior. From the side, the car is decidedly wedge shaped with a high rounded back and staggered wheels with 17-inch chrome 5 spoke wheels up front and 18's in the back. The front is also epic Corvette with hidden headlights fronting a long, low streamlined hood. Imperfections noticed other than the previously mentioned scuffs include delamination of the targa top, and some curb rash and chrome chips on wheels.
Interior
Oh sure, you could have a black interior with your Corvette, or you may have opted for this beautiful contrasting gray, which starts on the two toned door panels with typical molded plastic black tops and gray lowers. The bucket seats, in fine shape and stitched gray leather in varying patterns, are supportive with decent bolstering and an integrated headrest. Never missing a branding opportunity, Corvette is embroidered on each seat while the crossed flag emblem appears on the black steering wheel and in each of the black faced gauges ahead. A pod of buttons flanks the gauge cluster on the right and more buttons are sculpted in on the left. Fully integrated controls for the radio and climate system takes up the vertical center stack which makes a right angle turn to house the shifter in the center console, all in great condition. The low pile gray carpet is clean, protected by Corvette mats and it appears the brake pedal pad is missing.
Drivetrain
Pivot the hood forward to reveal the clean engine bay replete with plastic covers and housing the venerable 5.7 liter LS1 V8 putting out a whopping 350 horsepower and this one tied to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with 2.73 gears in the rear. We would expect nothing short of power disc brakes all the way around and that's what is present.
Undercarriage
Yep, no signs of being driven in the rain under here as it's all clean and dry including the belly pans and suspension components. Original equipment mufflers are in place as the dual exhaust runs the length of the car with individual cats right off the engine. Complex independent suspension features aluminum controls arms with transverse monoleaf springs.
Drive-Ability
With less than 40,000 pampered miles, we expected a good running car and indeed, the Vette did not let us down. Obviously, great power is on hand and a comfortable cockpit, while handling is like a train on rails. All systems go, and the car is poised for the next owner as a turnkey classic!
Vettes were never mass produced, so each one is a special part of Americana and presents an affordable entry in the classic car world, sportscar realm, and semi elite ownership group, many of which are members of active Corvette clubs all over the country.
