1977 Chevrolet Camaro Type LT

Description:

1977 Chevrolet Camaro Type LT

The LT trim was introduced in 1973, during the second generation of Camaros. The trim included a better appointed interior, Rally style wheels, sport mirrors, hidden wipers, and full instrumentation among other upgrades. When RPO code Z28 was selected in 1973 on an LT model, the usual Z28 badges, stripes, and graphics were deleted. In 1977, bumperettes were offered on Type LT's and they were mandatory on all Camaros sold in California.

For consignment, a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro Type LT with an authentically retro look with graphic stripes, mag wheels, and a raked stance. It retains its numbers matching transmission, it has been garage kept, sports consignor stated all original metal, and our consignor is the 2nd owner since 1982. Raise your hand if you had something like it in high school. Raise your other hand if you want it back.

Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area

Exterior
Dominated by silver paint, the top two thirds of the car are contrasted by black lined light buckets, a black grille and the entire rear fascia including the wing is black. The graphics include taped stripes in three colors bordered by black and rising on the door to encompass more of the rear quarter panel. This two step graphic was common back in the day when elaborate one off designs set your vehicle apart and maybe even got you in Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine! Huge chrome exhaust tips are split wide and exit beyond the chrome rear bumper, while 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with staggered width tires give this car its voice, and it's saying "Let's race!". Overall, the paint and stripes are in great condition. Imperfections include scratches over a wheel arch and down by the rocker panel, an area of former repair under paint, and a fitment issue of the nose piece as it wraps the side.

Interior
Crank up the Quiet Riot, we've got a red interior and it's gonna get wild, wild, wild! The red vinyl door panels have a pleated cloth insert and black armrest along with an aftermarket speaker. Red velour front bucket seats have textured insert, smooth bolsters and red seat belts. The 2+2 seating in the back mirror the color and materials and provide a comfortable though somewhat tight space for your friends who were likely up to no good and egging you on to "step on it!". Anyway, it's all bright and in very good condition and there's more speakers on the back shelf. A 4 spoke steering wheel contrasts the interior with black, which we also find backing the dashboard which is canted inward on the side creating a dedicated driver's space. A series of AutoMeter white faced gauges line the board and provide a coordinated color with black digits. An AM/FM/CD radio is mounted in the red dash just behind the skull topped shifter in the center console constructed of molded red plastic and housing a bin with armrest cover. Plush red carpet covers the floor and a flat red vinyl headliner looms above, all in good condition.

Drivetrain
Some chrome dress up parts adorn the engine, which is a 307ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor over an Edelbrock intake manifold. The Saginaw, 3-speed manual transmission is numbers matching and sends energy to the rear 10 bolt and 3.08 gears. The front wheels are equipped with power disc brakes and the rears have power drums. Headers head up the exhaust system.

Undercarriage
Generally clean and dry underneath with typical surface rust for a driver quality underside but no invasive rust was noted. Some residual oil is seen on the oil pan and the dual exhaust meet a pair of Flowmaster mufflers before heading out back. No catalytic converters are present. As was standard for the era, coil spring suspension is found up front with leaf springs in the rear. A rear sway bar has been added and a chrome differential cover was a "must have" in the late 70's and early 80's and our car has one!

Drive-Ability
We power up the 307 and cruise onto the test loop with some healthy sounding exhaust notes being played out back and a comfortable and familiar F-body cabin surrounding us. Decent power, good brakes, and nice handling, the car brings it all back for us children of the 70's! The gauges, lights, horn, and all the rest work as intended.

Now you can go back to your younger days without leaving the comfort of your garage. But when you do drive it out, get ready for the "I had one of these" stories that are going to pile on. Millions of us drove cars just like this long before imports became the youth go to genre. Pick this one up and return to F-body nation!
