LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Of the 260 original 427 street Cobras produced, approximately 105 examples left the factory with the less desirable and less powerful 428 Police Interceptor engines, leaving just 155 true 427 Cobras. Of the 155, only 100 were built with factory dual Holley carburetors. Only these dual-quad cars had their engines, transmission and expansion tanks painted black, a much more desirable combination than the other 160 street Cobras born with single carburetors and blue drivetrains. From that number, deduct the large number that have had their engines replaced or have been crashed, salvaged or simply destroyed, and there just aren’t a lot of truly pure 427 Street Cobras in the world today. It is estimated that only 15f 427 street Cobras have both never had any competition features added and never had road accident damage. Of those unmodified/undamaged cars remaining, very few still retain their original drivetrains like this car here. This 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 was billed to Shelby American on 9/2/65 ; shipped to Los Angeles. At Shelby American, work order #18057, "Build 427 Street Cobra" was opened on 11/29/65 and closed on 1/6/66. Shelby invoice #A 1716, dated 1/7/66, billed Jack Loftus Ford (Chicago, IL) for the car: 1966 Cobra, Red/black, $6,088.00 plus freight, $255, total: $6,343.00." Throughout its documented history, this incredible 427 Cobra has had just a couple of caretakers in its lifetime and accumulated only a mere 14,662 miles from new. In addition, its original aluminum skin has never been modified and still retains all of its original body, original chassis and original footboxes. It has never had a roll bar installed, never had a hole cut in the hood for a scoop and has never been fitted with side exhaust. Even the incredible original factory-installed leather seats are in the car today, which clearly shows how little use this Cobra has seen. Making this Cobra even more special, it retains its original 2x4v 427 CI engine, its original 4-speed Toploader transmission, and its original rear end. The team here at Legendary Motorcar just finished a complete nut & bolt, Concours rotisserie restoration on this exceptionally low mileage, original example. The Cobra was completely disassembled and refinished exactly how it left the factory. The Cobra is accompanied by photo documentation of the process. Today, it is presented in freshly restored condition and ready to be shown at any prestigious Concours event around the world. The car comes with an original grease gun, jack, side windows, soft top, 427 owner’s manual and correct tool roll. Examples like this 427 Cobra are extremely hard to come by, and it’s virtually unprecedented to find an original and never-modified Cobra complete with its original drivetrain.
