2004 Mustang GT Convertible
The fourth generation Ford Mustang was an automobile produced by Ford for the 1994 through 2004 model years. For 1994 the Ford Mustang underwent its first major redesign in fifteen years, being introduced in November 1993 and launching on December 9, 1993. The design, code named "SN-95" by Ford, was based on an updated version of the Fox platform, the final Ford vehicle underpinned with this platform. It featured styling by Bud Magaldi that incorporated some stylistic elements from the classic Mustangs.
Most 40th Anniversary package cars came with Parchment,(tan). leather interiors and Crimson Red paint however all Mustangs produced for the 2004 model year were badged as 40th anniversary cars. The last year of this generation of the venerable Mustang, this low low mileage, 18,847 title verified to be exact, convertible presents in good overall condition. A stout 4.6 liter SOHC V8 to power you down the highways and byways. Pony up and put the top down and let's enjoy 40 years of the Mustang.
Exterior
Bathed in Redfire Metallic with a tan canvas top and badged in clean chromed 40th anniversary galloping steed badging on the front quarters, this car sports aero headlights, a hood scoop, the correct rear spoiler package along black mirrors. Side body panels are reminiscent of the '65 hockey stick cove version, as are the updated modern version of the rear brake lights. Dual exhaust protrudes below the beige MUSTANG labeled neoprene bumper. Shiny 5 spoke wheels with the galloping steed badge in the center adorn all 4 corners.
Interior
Lowering the convertible, we are met with nicely kept Medium Parchment leather and vinyl combination seats, buckets in front and a bench in the rear. The buckets are embroidered in tan with the galloping pony logo and the driver's seat shows the brunt of the wear with minor age wrinkling in the leather along with upper left bolster wear. Power windows, power mirrors, a power top with a new motor for the up and down are seen on this car. The dash also in Medium Parchment vinyl has a very clean instrument panel, with analog gauges and digital odometer readout. A leather wrapped T style automatic shifter sits within the console and sits within its correct aluminum shift boot trim ring. Just below the heater controls and the Mach AM/FM/CD Changer stereo. Stainless steel pedal covers float above a seat of tan carpeting which is protected by tan carpeted floor mats.
Drivetrain
A 4.6 liter SOHC fuel injected V8 backed by a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission can be seen in clean and green shape with the lift of the hood. On the back is a Ford 8.8" 3.27 TracLoc rear axle.
Undercarriage
All original, all structurally sound with surface rust on uncoated steel surfaces, definitely unremarkable. Rockers are pristine, as are the unibody rails and floor panels. Independent front suspension and 4 link rear suspension along with dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and 4-wheel power disc brakes.
Drive-Ability
I sat in this 40th anniversary Mustang and turned the key which brought the 4.6L to life. Off to the test track where it performed nicely with good handling, smooth shifting and bias free braking. The top moved up and down with ease.
Not many manufacturers can claim to have lasted 40 years let alone a single model doing so uninterrupted. Beautiful paint, body lines and interior gives this last year of the venerable SN-95/New Edge platform a long lasting look that even to this day gets oohs and ahhs. A pampered car with few miles clocked on it, and now it can be grabbed by you and rode into the sunset...Pony up and celebrate 40 years of the galloping steed.
