2005 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
A major styling change for the C6 Corvette is non-pop up headlights... not seen on a Corvette since 1962. The base engine for the 2005 Corvette was the 400hp LS2, only 5 horses less than the LS6 engine of the previous year's high performance Z06 model. 2005 was the first year for keyless access and start. A big styling change for this rounded aero body which is a far cry from the early days of the Corvette's humble beginnings.
Fast backward to 2005 and this C6 version puts out 400hp and has the first exposed headlights since 1962. This coupe from Bowling Green presents in good condition and it has the European sports car wide and low look, a tinted glass top, nice black leather interior, and a slightly patinaed undercarriage with no rust and mostly clean. All bathed in arrest me dark red.
Exterior
Very nice dark red covers the exterior of this open headlight fiberglass car. A see- through tinted glass top along with a hatchback of clear glass opens up for extra storage space for this rocket ship. That rear glass somewhat harkens back to the 63 era 'Vettes with its curvature and V shape. 18 and 19-inch 5 spoke polished wheels are noted all around and are wrapped in like new staggered width rubber from the 13th week of 2023. Add in some bling from the round taillights rear in the form of dual dual exhausts peeking out from the center rear and we are in Corvette heaven. The paint and fiberglass are simply lip-smacking conditions and the exterior headlight coverings are still clear. Modena inspired rear view mirrors are hanging off of either door.
Interior
With a nicely contrasting color to the dark red exterior, we are met with ebony leather high back buckets and matching black leather door panels with just a touch of lighter gray accenting. In these doors we see power windows, power locks, seat adjustment memory buttons, mirror toggles and a push button actuator. The dash has a curved visor under which resides the instrument cluster. These are backlit LCD and analog instruments and have a pattern similar to the Porsche Carrera with 2 larger gauges and smaller satellite gauges hovering around them. Dual curved panels flank on either side and have a line of functions and drive mode buttons at the driver's fingertips. In dash central there is an edge of brushed faux aluminum in a panel that dives downward housing the AM/FM/CD stereo and climate knobs along with seat heaters. A covered cup holder and the shifter is also here and it the console ends between the seats with an armrest/storage console. Clean charcoal gray carpeting covers the floors, and the rear cargo area under that curved tinted rear glass.
Drivetrain
A 6.0 liter LS2 V8 with electronic fuel injection can be seen emblazoned with Corvette LS2 logos and is attached to a 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle weighs in at a 2.73 ratio. A overall nice clean presentation.
Undercarriage
With the use of many lightweight materials, we see some corrosion, no surface rust, and all structurally sound framing and floor pans. 4 wheel power disc brakes are seen, and this C6's suspension consisted of independent unequal-length double wishbones with transverse fiberglass mono-leaf springs. Power disc braking is on all 4 corners and stock style dual exhaust is on to handle the removal of spent gasses.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and with a light touch of the accelerator I can feel the LS2 package kicking in. The car handled like it's on rails, and with all the creature comforts of conveniences added in, I think I'll stay for a while. All functions were working great.
With its beautiful black well preserved leather interior mating with the Dark Red exterior, it does not get any better than this with the color combination. I'm finding myself wildly attracted, and maybe it's the "magnetic" red? A clean overall engine bay, and well performing engine and transmission, this open headlamp version of the C6 is a turnkey sports car awaiting action. Go ahead, make your day!
