1972 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
The 1967"72 Chevrolet C/K is one of the most popular, reliable, and easiest-to-drive classic pickups you can find. This particular generation marks the turning point when Chevy realized it could offer truck buyers modern conveniences and comfort options in the same way it did sedan shoppers-a stunningly simple connection to make in retrospect, but one that blew the market wide open during a time when primary rival Ford steadfastly refusing to build anything other than the most utilitarian models for work use.
Getting its namesake from Henry Ford where the customer would literally use the Model T with a bed added to "pick up" various things to haul to another location. The name stuck. Here we have a beautifully restored and upgraded bowtie version '72 C10 pickup with performance upgrades aplenty, smooth panels, no rust, air ride suspension, a snappy interior, and just an overall good looker. All sprayed in stunning dark red metallic paint, and I have a warm and fuzzy feeling about this C10, and I should, as every part was done in earnest yielding a beautifully finished product.
Exterior
With its laser straight rust free steel panels in abundance, all awash in dark red metallic which was professionally applied, it's a stunner. All is highlighted by some near perfection chrome. Upfront, a custom horizontally barred grille is bordered all around by a shiny wide trimming. Within this framing are the single headlights on either edge and a mirror finished bumper below. Side marker lights are now encircled with black bezels, and badging has been shaved from the sides. The steel is beautifully crafted to form all panels with some bump outs, pleats and rounded over surfaces which are all presenting excellent, right down to the bed sides in and out. The bed is finished in body matching steel and shows with just a few dents and dings. The tailgate is also devoid of any badging, just the embossed CHEVROLET lettering from the factory and the chromed gate handle. The rear bumper has been shaved off and now a simple roll pan takes its place...just perfect. 5 spoke American Racing Torque Thrust 18-inch wheels are all wrapped in hardy used low profile black walls.
Interior
A swing of the doors and what to my wondering eyes should appear but black embossed Sheridan style plastic and vinyl and exterior matching dark red metallic on the sills and lowers of the doors. Inside is nothing short of spectacular with tuck and roll vinyl inserts and smooth bolsters all in black making up the door to door stretching bench seat. A red bowtie has been stitched into the center seat upper and is looking just fab. Upfront is the stock looking same shaped dash but now totally cleaned and detailed sporting the updated electronic circular gauges and knobs with this black textured panel. Full metal jacket red paint covers the dash front, and on top is a showroom shiny padded black dash top. The center dash panel houses the AM/FM/CD radio and a temp slider panel just below hovering above a duet of gauges and switches for the infinitely adjustable air ride. Just all pristinely clean and fully functional. Black rubber matting is flooding the floor underneath the bench and more dark red steel makes up the headliner.
Drivetrain
Looking showroom, like the rest of the truck, we see a circa 2007 6.0 Liter LS V8 with approximately 122,000 miles clocked on it. It is finished with Holley EFI fuel rails, a Holley EFI intake manifold and a cold air intake. Bolted to the back of this modern mill is a rebuilt TH400 3-speed automatic. Power goes to the back wheels and tires via a 12 bolt rear axle. Headers and a Flowmaster exhaust are on for the big exhale, and these are spotless and like new.
Undercarriage
Highlights underneath include a saddle mount air tank, Air-Lift suspension which is independent for the front, and a 3 link in back. Power disc braking is on front, and power drums on back. Just showroom pristine condition for this 51 year old truck. with its black painted frame, and dark red metallic flooring, bed floor and rockers...very impressive.
Drive-Ability
Normally, I'm not a truck guy, but the warm glow of the red paint, straight lines of the steel, the lowered air adjustable stance, and new interior beckoned me to get in. I'm glad I did as it performed beautifully with lots of power, bias free panic stopping, smooth steering from the power assist, and fully functioning interior and exterior components. What a truck!
When someone cares enough to have the patience to afford to do it right you know it is gonna be good. Well I can assure you this one is GREAT and then some. Take the final year for the C10 of this era, and pour your heart into the restoration and the new owner will walk out of the Hallowed Halls with a smile on their face, content with the price paid due to the overall quality and gorgeous looks of this example. It does not get any better than this, trumping the others that are, or have been here, by a country mile!
