For the 1992 model year, GM transitioned its large SUVs to the GMT400 architecture, originally introduced with the 1988 pickup lines. This redesign brought modestly increased dimensions, with a 111.5-inch (2,830 mm) wheelbase and an overall length of 187.7 inches (4,770 mm). The Chevrolet Blazer dropped the "K5" prefix, becoming the Full-Size Blazer, while its GMC counterpart was rebranded as the first-generation GMC Yukon. Unlike previous generations, the GMT400-based Blazer and Yukon featured fixed tailgate glass and a non-removable roof.
