*1985 Lincoln Continental Mk VIII LSC* The Lincoln Continental is without a doubt one of the most important luxury cars in the history of the American automotive industry. From its early generations with Rolls-Royce rivaling quality to the era-defining “suicide-door� cars from the early 1960s, the Continental was always a car at the cutting edge of styling and technology. The MK VII was a personal luxury coupe that debuted in 1983 for the 1984 model year. Based on the Fox Body Mustang chassis, the car was smaller and nimbler than previous Continentals, yet it retained the luxury buyers had come to expect from the brand. This 1985 Lincoln Continental MK VII LSC is a fantastically preserved example that shows just 16,908 miles from new at the time of cataloging. Sold new at L&B Lincoln-Mercury in Babylon, NY on November 23 1984, the car spent time in Florida and California before moving up to the greater Seattle area earlier in 2024. Finished in Midnight Black Over a Charcoal leather interior, the car remains in excellent condition throughout and is a true icon of 1980s American luxury. The “LSC� in the car’s name stands for Luxury Sports Coupe which was the sportier upper-trim level offered at the time. From the outside, the LSC was differentiated by the reduced chrome trim, sporty 16-inch BBS mesh wheels with blackwall tires that, in period, were shared with the Camaro Z/28. The changes for the LSC continued on the interior, with more heavily bolstered sport seats up front and a great looking set of digital gauges. That being said, the MK VII still placed luxury above all else so the seats remained extremely comfortable and the car was packed with standard convenience features. A premium audio system with a cassette player was fitted in the center console, alongside an automatic climate control system. A digital message display gave readouts about average speed, fuel economy and other important stats for the car, while an overhead console was packed with an exterior thermometer, map lights, compass display and garage door opener. This car was even fitted with keyless entry thanks to an integrated keypad on the driver’s side door. Powering the MK VII is the same HO 5.0-liter fuel injected V8 found in the contemporary Mustang. Producing 140 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, power was sent to a limited slip rear axle via a 4-speed automatic gearbox. This Continental was the first American car to be fitted standard with 4-wheel disc brakes that were fitted with an ABS system. Additionally, to ensure a smooth ride, air suspension was fitted from the factory at all four corners which would level the car when loaded with luggage or occupants.
