1964 Ford F100 Long Bed Pickup

Description:

1964 Ford F100 Long Bed Pickup

"Flip open the tailgate of a '64 Ford Styleside pickup. One hand operates it with ease, yet the tailgate can take a ton! And with it, you'll find a big new box with double sidewalls for extra strength. For all its toughness though, this Ford's mighty easy on you. You ride in a cab that's smart as a station wagon. A foam seat supports you in comfort. Tough Ford! But man, how gently it rides and handles!" From the 1964 Ford Truck brochure.

For consignment, a 1964 Ford F100 long bed pickup truck, a long way from the bygone days when work trucks were purpose built and targeted the hard working farmers, contractors, mechanics, and others. But this frame off build has the inside, outside, and underside has all been purpose built for a different purpose. This '64 resto-mod is for when you clock out. When the day is done, it's time for fun. And this truck delivers. With just 524 miles on the engine and build, the next owner will have the pleasure of enjoying the hard work put into it.

Exterior
Oxford White is like a vat of fresh farm milk, glistening with two stage gloss of the classic lines of this once common pickup. But it's the things around that white paint that accentuate the appearance. That starts with the chrome grille, bold and vertical with symmetrical patterns and round headlights in square bezels over a straight, shiny bumper. Then there's the badging, the red crest on front connecting visually with the Ford 429 emblem on the side. Follow the fine, tan pinstripe and find yourself at the tailgate, where Ford is painted masterfully in shadowy shades of tan between taillights borrowed from a Cadillac. Above it all, a matching tan tonneau cover completes a unique and tasteful color palette. The 18-inch Ridler wheels here also work well and are wrapped in 40 series tires. The days of this truck running dirt trails on the ranch are over, this is a clean street machine. The bed is wonderfully wooded, and the black sidewalls pick up on the dark grains of the wood. Overall, we could not find any exterior imperfections on this show piece.

Interior
It gets good on the inside too where red paint serves as the backdrop for brown door panels with a grommeted leather insert and machined metal controls. Red stitched brown leather surrounds lighter colored ostrich leather inserts on the low back bucket seats that include an ornate design artfully carved in the top. A brown steering wheel tops a polished column that finds its way to a custom dash with a ribbed metallic backing where we find a speedometer and gauge cluster above black and white knobs under a red stitched dash cover that brings all the interior colors together. An AM/FM/CD radio offers black contrast to the red painted dash from the center to the glove box. The center console is out of a 1971 Ford LTD but was not spared customization with more of the brown leather and ostrich, above it, a stitched "pinstripe" pattern in red and white. Brown wool berber carpet coats the floor and it's nicer than most living rooms, while the suede headliner and visors with a touch of ostrich are off the charts impressive.

Drivetrain
And talk about impressive, the custom tilt hood comes forward and reveals a clean 429ci V8 which our consignor states puts out 400+ horsepower. A Holley 4-barrel carburetor is on top, under an intake scoop that grabs air passed to it via the ducts of the 1964 fascia. A C6 3-speed automatic transmission sets it all into motion and sends power to the Ford 8.8" rear axle with 3.73 gears. Bringing some more mod into this resto, power disc brakes are found on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
Whistle clean underneath, with a single drop of oil on the flywheel cover and some light surface rust on the driveshaft, and that's the extent of noteworthy things that veer from near perfection. Highlights include the stainless exhaust that comes off of the headers, runs through a set of shiny mufflers, then dumps rather subtlety in front of each back wheel. Suspension from a Crown Victoria is up front and includes coil springs while leaf springs do the deed in the back. The rear frame is C-notched and the front is boxed.

Drive-Ability
Here's one where we check our shoes before entering. The cabin is a warm environment and a pleasant place to be with brown leather calming you while red highlights perk you up. So, it is with an even temperament that we take this stunner around the test loop where it performs well, delivering astounding power and a pleasurable exhaust note, all while tracking straight and handling turns like a barrel racer. And the power steering helps! We note the taillights are not working and the horn does not blow. All other functions on this build work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Put this in the category of "you couldn't build it for this price". You can also call it an Osmond truck, because it's a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Brown leather on the inside, glossy white on the out, and a rockin' power plant under the front tilting hood. And don't forget the bed which is like a finely crafted wood chair that you buy to look at, not to sit in. Yep, this is a fine resto-mod and we welcome any potential wranglers to mosey on over to Classic Auto Mall to throw a lasso on it
