2008 Chevrolet Corvette Indy Pace Car Replica Convertible
The Corvette 2008 Indy 500 Pace Car was created in order to commemorate the selection of the C6 Corvette as the Official Pace Car of the 92nd Indianapolis 500. These limited edition cars were available in a semi convertible, (referred to as coupe), or convertible body style. These were all painted black and featured a black and gray interior as well as headrests embroidered with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo. Buyers had a choice of a 6 speed manual or 6 speed paddle shift automatic to pair with the 6.0L LS2 V8 engine. As famed F1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi was driving the actual safety car in the race, he signed each of the 500 examples of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Indy Pace Car that were built.
For consignment a garage kept beauty, and near perfect example of the year 2008 Corvette in convertible form carrying the Indy Pace Car livery. 17,123 title verified original miles, and these are consigner stated easy miles, never raced, just enjoyed. Polished wheels, all stock and always garaged, it is ready for its next life in capable hands. It is yearning to be taken out and stretch its legs, carving through a winding back road, top down and shaded only by the trees overhead, and the birds jumping off their perches being startled by the sound of you exercising its 8 cylinder legs.
Exterior
This integrated bumper, sealed headlights, no audacious chrome just pure performance oriented sculpted exterior is bathed in menacing Darth Vader Black. Fiberglass is near perfect just like it was carefully un-molded at the factory and the chrome and black winged tire Indianapolis Motor Speedway emblem graces the bottom of each front fender. All gaps are well minded, and with all the panels, it becomes a piece of racing sculpture with a performance heritage. We note a few scrapes on the lower front fascia and a sizable scuff on the right lower corner of the back bumper. On top is a pristine black canvas power convertible, with a glass rear window. It moves up and down almost as fast as the car does and allows for 3 season driving. 18-inch 5 spoke polished wheels in front and 19's in the rear, and we are ready to step inside and spin the tires. Bringing up the rear is a large flat angled inward panel, complete with the round Corvette taillights, and a quad grouping tailpipe setup centered at the bottom.
Interior
Carved utilizing smooth lines shaping foam and leather which form 2 high back buckets for driver and passenger. These are in very nice condition with no rips or tears and show with smooth black bolsters and puffy tuck and roll titanium gray inserts. Gracing the headrests of the buckets are colorfully embroidered Indianapolis Motor Speedway patches. Fronting these seats is a dash which grows from side to side out of a center console which houses a glovebox, and shift lever fabricated out of leather knobbed and booted. The console moves gracefully upward giving the climate control center and Bose AM/FM/CD player space to hang out. Under the curved instrument cluster, we see a backlit cascade of gauges perfectly fitted under an emulating shape to this cluster arch steering wheel. A Corvette flag logo carpeted topper protects the dash, but is slightly ill fitting. Plenty of power conveniences are noted throughout. Black carpet floods the floors, and is very clean, as are the door panels also utilizing the curve for their design.
Drivetrain
Under the front flipping hood, is a 6.2-liter 8 cylinder EFI mill that looks like showroom condition. On back is a 6-speed automatic that utilizes a paddle shifter on the steering wheel option if you so desire to get a bit competitive. A 2.73 limited slip rear axle is present.
Undercarriage
A nice mixture of cast aluminum, steel and fiberglass mix it up to give this car handling and stability. C6 Corvette independent suspension is seen all around, and power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. A dual mode exhaust is all clean and no rust snakes its way rearward to the quad pipes.
Drive-Ability
I've had the pleasure to drive every Corvette that has come to the Classic Auto Mall, and they all have their own feel year to year of production. This one is easy in and out, seats grab you, and with the push of the button it lights right up. I like the paddles and make extensive use of them on the test track where it has neck snapping acceleration, rail like handling, and is very stable in the curves which it cuts through like a sharp hot knife through butter. It also has a very smooth low RPM cruise. The sound system and all interior power functions worked just supremely. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A great example of 2008 bow tie iconic design along with some racing heritage to go along with it, plenty of extra power and ultimate interior comfort. Plus it is a convertible for that open air sports car experience. A wonderful solid car well cared for, and ready to hit a curved road and carve out some excitement.
