1932 Studebaker Indy Car for sale! Motorcar Classics is proud to present this 1932 Studebaker Indianapolis 500 Special Tribute Car. In 1932 and 1933 Studebaker fielded a factory team of five Specials based on Studebaker President mechanicals to compete at the Indianapolis 500. Studebaker?s Indianapolis 500 racing team was one of the Speedway?s largest factory-backed campaigns and represents an almost mythical era of Studebaker history. The Studebaker Specials? competition included entrants from legendary builders Harry Miller and Fred Duesenberg and the team skillfully showcased Studebaker?s top-notch engineering and reliability. Examples of these cars are in the Studebaker National Museum and in 2016 one sold at auction for over $1 million.
A local enthusiast who was always fascinated by these Studebaker Specials undertook the construction of our one-off tribute car that he conceived of as an attention-getting and great fun road car. He started with a 1952 Ford F1 chassis, rear end, front axle, with rebuilt steering box & power disc brakes. The engine is a Chevy 292 CI. straight 6 with HEI Distributor, Clifford Manifold, and triple Carter one barrel carbs with custom exhaust. The engine is mated to a GM Turbo 350 automatic transmission for easy driving. The body is hand-formed aluminum and steel over a wood frame, just as cars were originally built in the period.
Take a few moments to search for the many articles online about the history of the Studebaker factory team at Indy. Our stunning tribute makes an awesome sound and it is great fun on the road. The craftsmanship is very high in quality and the car is huge fun at an affordable price.
