2025 Lexus LX 700h debuts new hybrid powertrain
Lexus has taken the wraps off the 2025 Lexus LX, bringing a new hybrid powertrain and a new off-road trim to the brand's flagship luxury SUV. The 2025 Lexus LX line will be offered in six grades Premium, F Sport, Handling, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and a new Overtrail trim. All trims of the 2025 Lexus LX get a new 12.3-inch digital driver's display, a new wireless phone charging pad with faster charging capability, and the latest version of the brand's Lexus Safety System + 3.0. Buyers will be able to elect for Executive and VIP trims that add upgraded seats both front and rear, including massage functions and more. A new hybrid model, the 2025 Lexus LX 700h, combines a 3.4 lt twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a motor generator, clutch, and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This system makes 457 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque and is capable of achieving up to 20 mpg on the EPA combined cycle. From a technical standpoint, the 2025 Lexus LX 700h weighs 265 pounds more than the standard LX 600, ringing in at 6,129 pounds, mostly due to the addition of the battery pack. That battery pack is housed in a waterproof tray that includes a water sensor and the ability to wade through up to 27.6 inches of water. This is still an off-road-focused vehicle, after all. New crossmember and rear engine mounts are included to compensate for the extra heft of the hybrid system. An AC inverter feeds power to multiple external powerpoints as well, making it handier for camping trips and tailgate parties alike. Lexus also fitted the 700h with an alternator and a starter to ensure the full-time 4WD system still works even in the unlikely event of a hybrid failure. Additional standard off-road systems include a Lo-range transfer case, active height, and active traction control. The brand has also spent time adding refinement, including redesigned cab mount cushions, an updated AVS system, additional instrument panel brackets, and reinforced radiator supports for improved steering. The 700h is capable of towing up to 8,000 pounds when properly equipped. In addition to the new 700h, there is a new even-more-off-road-focused Overtail trim arriving with matte gray wheels mounted with 265/70 R18 all-terrain tires or 265/65 R18 mud/snow rubber, depending on the region. A trim exclusive Moon Desert exterior paint color will be available, along with a blacked-out front grille and additional darkened exterior trim pieces. The Overtrail also receives standard front and rear locking differentials. This trim will only be available with the new 700h powertrain with either two or three rows of seating. The 2025 Lexus LX 700h will launch in the US in early 2025, with pricing information available closer to its on-sale date.
