1979 Chevrolet K-10 Pickup
While relatively straight-lined and boxy in appearance, (leading to their "Square-body" nickname from the public), the Rounded Line trucks were the first generation of the C/K to be designed with the use of computers and wind tunnels, optimizing the exterior shape for lower drag and improved fuel economy. The chassis was an all-new design, (with all trucks receiving a leaf-spring rear suspension), K-Series trucks moved to all-wheel drive, (shift-on-the-fly 4x4 was introduced for 1981).
For consignment, a "square body" GM labeled "rounded design" pickup truck with a K designation. This means it's a 4x4, and our model shown here has been treated to a suspension lift along with a redone interior, rebuilt drivetrain and all new brakes and components to just name a few of its attributes. It has been garage kept, has rust free steel, and a powerful 350ci V8. Classic Trucks are hot right now and we see a trend for owners to use them as a promotional piece for their businesses. A little promotion won't hurt will it? Also it has the ability to get a little mud on the tires.
NOTE: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.
Exterior
Square and rectangle design abound right upfront with the chrome trimmed crate grille flanked by single round headlights within square bezels and turn signals just below in square and rectangle form. A big bumper protects the front and a nice bowtie badge sits in the center. All steel with well minded gaps is bathed in midnight black which shows well with very few flaws and imperfections. Leading back to the cab is a cowl induction hood and there we meet up with two doors, a shiny large mirror hanging from either side and all correct badging. Window trimmings are blackened and new stainless highlights the drip rails on the sides. Up high, a custom black fiberglass visor shades the upper part of the windshield and a sliding rear window has been optioned in for the rear glass. The bed has a custom aluminum floor which shows in good condition, having limited usage. On the back is a solid gate with a brushed aluminum insert and shiny bumper which has the tail lights floating off of each side of the box. Very shiny 16-inch drilled and lightly polished M/T wheels are on all 4 corners, and wrapped with LT285/75R16 all weather Falken Wilderness AT's with a 9th week of 2023 manufacture date.
Interior
The original looking panels are completely restored and now see black vinyl and plastic covering them along with a small storage pouch, framed by black painted metal trimming. Wonderful slightly textured saddle vinyl with lighter tan piping is reserved for the newly covered bench that stretches door to door. The dash is pure 1979 GM with square and rectangle design that wraps around the steering wheel, and contains plenty of round white face gauges, knobs, pulls, and climate control sliders. An aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio has been installed and belts out the tunes. A new dash pad with an aftermarket tach hovers above all this goodness and down on the floor we note new deep pile black carpeting. In the center of the hump is a polished bezel and rubber accordion boot wrapping around the 4WD shifter. Above is a nice tight fuzzy black broadcloth headliner. Great job on the interior!
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a well restored engine bay this high steppin' hauler is graced with a rebuilt 350ci V8. Finished in a fresh coating of Chevrolet orange it now has an Edelbrock single 4-barrel carburetor feeding it, and on back is a rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. This pushes power rearward to a 12 bolt rear and with the pull of a lever power also goes to the front 10 bolt axle. We note a new radiator to keep things cool and headers feed down to a new dual exhaust system, sans catalytic converters, with Turbo mufflers for the mighty exhale. Fab!
Undercarriage
Due to the restoration, the underside is just as nice as the topside. All rust free black frame, rockers, stamped floor pans, and a new fuel tank is seen. For the suspension, there has been a lift kit installed and its leaf springs for the front and rear with the fronts being new. We also note new ball joints, new dual steering stabilizers and new cab bushings. Like new power disc brakes are up front, and power drums for the rear with new stainless lines, braided hoses, new calipers and rotors, and new rear shoes. Just mind blowing!
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside and was amazed at the attention to detail with the paint, interior surfaces, like new dash, and just....everything! She fired right up and to the test track we drove where this truck performed nicely, however we noted somewhat sloppy power steering with a tendency to wander, the horn wouldn't toot, the wipers didn't wipe, the low beams did not illuminate, the heater didn't blow and the in dash tachometer is now the fuel gauge. Those faults aside, the truck exhibited nice abundant and seemingly never ending acceleration, and even a smooth comfortable cruise with plenty of interior room. Braking was adequate and handling was a bit off due to the sloppy steering.
From head to toe, top and bottom, every inch is near perfect in looks, fit and finish on this '79 K-10 4x4 pickup. Get in and turn the key and you'll be the envy of your construction crew showing up to the site in this beauty. It's that nice, you could even take the wife out to an expensive dinner in it to celebrate your purchase of said truck, (although make sure there is a nice gift on the seat for her when she gets in, because after all you bought the truck...).
