1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab Pickup
Sales brochures at dealerships touted the RAM toughness, load handling longevity/long haul durability, and reading their copy, one would think these trucks would be around forever. And alas some still are!
For consignment, a Dodge Dakota in Club Cab format with a snappy 5.9 Liter EFI V8 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission and some RT striping thrown on for good measure. Let's call this a family and cargo hauling friendly sport truck capable of generating plenty of thrills without emptying your savings account just its fuel tank! A Dakota is the only truck that truly drives like a sports car. This is largely due to its smaller size, as a full-size pickup is simply too large to experience a similar feel. Our example has been unmolested only to have tinted glass, slightly tinted headlights and a bed covering like the NASCAR truck series racers.
Due to varying emissions control devices being removed, please check with your state, county, local or provincial motor vehicle department to verify the ability to legally register this vehicle in your area***
Exterior
A Flame Red painted wild child if you will, and then some, we are graced with this Dakota in our presence. This is not just your run of the mill truck either, as it has a custom mesh Street Scene grille installed. Aero designed headlights are flanking on either side and have been slightly tinted just like the glass. The red painted bumper in front is showing some rust on the driver's corner most likely due to a mishap and below is a large open smaller grille within the wide bumper and some inset running lights are seen. Lightly smoked glass for the cab with black trimmings and black B pillar wrap-ins coming loose on the drivers and passenger's sides are also noted. Black decal badges present on the door panels, and adding to the mystique are black mirrors, handles and plenty of smoked window visors. On the back, a pneumatic tube bed cover in fiberglass protects your cargo. The interior of the bed is also covered in trunk liner charcoal gray carpeting throughout. The rear bumper has been shaved for a cleaner look and this is coming our way this way from the factory. Nice side and bed panels are all rust free and a vertical black RT badged stripe is just forward of the tailgate on either side. Dual exhaust peek out the passengers side just forward of the rear wheels. 17-inch wheels are wrapped in 235/60R17 rubber from the 41st week of 2020.
Interior
Clean gray cloth covers the stylish high buckle oval designed buckets and some of the door panels. An original charcoal gray dash is up front, and a leather wrapped steering wheel is in front of the dash with a Ram branded airbag in the center. The door panels are mostly clean, have some added plastic for their coverings in addition to the broadcloth, and we see power windows and locks. Filling out the dash are the factory circular sweep instruments along with the dials for the heater and working AC along with an aftermarket Sony AM/FM/CD stereo. It is a digital version with a USB input. Clean gray carpet is reserved for the floors and a fuzzy light gray headliner with a working courtesy light is above. Peering in the back, we see a simple broadcloth bench for extra passenger carrying.
Drivetrain
5.9 liters of power is under the hood and this produces 250hp. Electronic fuel injection in charge of air and fuel delivery and a rebuilt 4-speed automatic, (46RE), is on back. 3.55 gears and Positraction are reserved for the rear axle. All is in excellent mechanical condition and presents in a clean engine bay.
Undercarriage
Peering underneath we see some light surface rust covering the usual suspects, but all solid and structurally sound. Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear, and a Flowmaster exhaust sans the catalytic converter is now installed. Remember these side exit pipes gives this truck a nice roar. Providing the ride is an independent front suspension with coil springs and in back leaf springs.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, this truck really does handle like a sports car. It's lower to the ground than the standard offerings in the pickup genre, and it helps a lot. Good smooth acceleration and shifting, and a nice quiet comfortable cruise at highway speed. All functions were working just perfectly and this truck is kind of a rocket ship and unexpectedly so when you get goosey with your boot.
A beautiful flame red racer and hauler for people and cargo. Couple in straight steel, a clean interior and being fully functional and you cannot go wrong. A hauler that is also a perfect throwback to the mini-truck craze of the late 90's and early 2000's that definitely will open some admiring eyes! Boogity Boogity Boogity!
