1980 Yamaha DT-175G
1980 Yamaha DT-175G The DT-175G is the second of a long line of enduro motorcycles that can be traced back to the CT-1 of the late 1960's. It's demise in North America came in 1981 due to emission laws. These motorcycles were virtually indestructible and had a reputation of being some of the best to come out of Japan. For consignment, a telescopic oil dampened front suspension version with dual shocks on back. 175cc's power their way through thick and thin, and the bike can be used as a commuter or off roader with ease. Our version has a few scrapes and dents and dings, but otherwise is a fine example of a bygone era in motorcycling, where you coulda truly try to run it to the limit, with it coming out like a champ on the other end. This version arrived at our Hallowed Halls in factory blue with all the correct badging and adornments intact and looking sporty. A long black vinyl seat can have an extra go along for the ride, but it may be a rough one on the trail! The sturdy mono tube rail framing shows no rust and is as strong as the day it left the factory. The bike is certainly street legal as it has turn signals, a brake and headlight. A tachometer and speedo are upfront above the headlight, which floats above a high white fiberglass mudguard front fender. Chromed handlebars are slightly rusted, but with a bit of cleanup can be brought back to like new. Dual mirrors, a kick starter and foot shifter work in unison to bring this chromed rimmed, spoked wheeled knobby tires 2 wheeler up to speed. The fuel tank has some surface rust and the right rear turn signal stalk has at one time been broken and is now repaired with duct tape. A 175cc 2 stroke engine is fed by a Mikuni VM24SS 24mm slide type carburetor, which drives a 5-speed transmission through the chain to the rear wheel. This produces 16.5hp. Front and rear brakes are drums, and all its air cooled to keep it simple. Condition shows some corrosion on cast parts as well as sight surface rust on the rear tubular frame support triangle. Rims and spokes retain their shine on the front 21 inch wheels and rear 18 inchers. Overall she is showing with a bit of age and fade and corrosion but a good overall solid version of a time past where an adventurous rider could commute to work then on the way home take a dirt trail. Just take the tie and jacket off and watch those jumps! AIRTIME!!
