1958 MG Magnette |
Most people would argue sport sedans started in the 60's or 70's, however they're forgetting one car before it's time. The MG Magnette was the classic family sport sedan. They were equipped with a 4-speed shifter, a sport tuned suspension, disc brakes and this one was upgraded with a more powerful B engine. These little sedans proved themselves in international rallies and quickly took off being a popular public purchase! This car appealed to driving enthusiasts who couldn't be limited to a typical two seater sports car. This is most likely the best one available. We acquired it from a long time customer/collector, he drove it 50 miles to get here and then insisted I go for a ride with him.
EXTERIOR: Finished in a gorgeous French blue paint. The body is clean and straight, the fit and finish is exceptional. Being an older restoration, the paint has mild crows feet cracking in places. These Magnettes have a very appealing look with the Lucas lamps, the big chrome MG grill and the chrome extended bumpers. All the chrome trim shines like new, there's no rust. The glass is nice and clear and in great shape. It has the upgraded correct radial tires on the MG steel wheels with hubcaps.
INTERIOR: The cabin is finished with a beautiful cream Connoly leather with blue piping. Bucket seats in front, it has a fold down armrest in back. Seatbelts have been added. It also has a beautiful wood trim. The carpet matches the navy blue accent piping and in great shape. The wood dash, knobs, optional radio and original gauges look nice. It has a hidden stereo under the dash with speakers. The headliner is in great shape. The stylish steering wheel is beautiful and has a working horn. Overall, the interior gives a luxury presence, it reminds me of a Rolls Royce!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Upgraded with the more powerful B series 1798cc 4cyl MGB engine paired with twin carbs. Everything is nice, clean and proper. The engine is painted nicely, it has a clean glossy engine bay too. 12 volt battery with a disconnect swtich.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk compartment is complete: it has a spare tire, the tool kit, air pump and jack. There's also some literature, British license plates and front badge bar. It is solid and painted nicely. It also has a cream color liner and blue carpet mat.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath the car is clean, the frame is painted the same French blue, floors are solid. It has rack and pinion steering and disc brakes in the front. It appears the front end components were taken apart and rebuilt. A nice single exhaust system is hung properly, and the rear suspension looks to be replaced.
This is arguably one of the first sport sedans introduced to the car world. This is a very clean, honest car that drives and handles nicely. It's not a high speed car but it is a very sporty feel that delivers some vintage fun!
A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.
